Preliminaries; Round 2
I ran out of the audition room with my head held high! I was moving onto the next audition room! I should that producer Nigel that I had something, SOMETHING, that set me apart from the thousands of other auditioners. Something that made me stand out! However, the day was only half way over. I still had to prove myself to another panel of executive producers. As excited as I was was, my nerves still started up again.
I sat on a chair outside the executive producer’s audition room, with over 20 other performers; more kept coming. there were groups of harmonizers, dance crews, magicians and a few cross dressers. Again, I wasn’t sure what to expect. All I knew was I had to glow with confidence. I had to sing my song and let my personality shine through.
“Audition Number…. 831510, please come with me” Said the producer and I walked into the room with my head up and eyes on the prize.
Just like the previous room, I walked in, stood in the center of the audition room, and faced a video camera. However, instead of two producers, there were six. All staring at me. super intimidating. They, then, asked for my name, age and to have a seat at the keyboard.
Again, I started with “Imagine” by John Lennon. With my newly discoverd confidence glowing, I looked up to see each and everyone one of the producers smiling back at me. They were enjoying my performance. And in return for the their smiles my heart jumped for joy! I loved every second of the audition process. I then, finished my song and was heavily applauded by the producers.
“Fabulous” One of the producers said with her unmistakable british accent.
“However, one problem. That song won’t clear”
(okay- so all TV shows need to buy the copyrights to the music we want to sing—> that’s what “Clear” means… and John Lennon/The Beatles… NEVER clear.)
So I fumbled through my memory and played, not one, not two, but six songs for the producers, and to my luck… none cleared. Not a single one. I was getting nervous. But before I pulled the seventh song from my brain the producer stopped me and stood up. Before she said anything, she took my audition contract/packet, put it in an envelope and drew and giant green check mark, followed by a “yes” on it. She then walked me out of the door and into a separate briefing room with more producers on laptops. She handed me the folder, gave me a hug and said “Congratulations”, Smiled and walked out the door.
I MADE IT THROUGH THE NEW YORK PRELIMINARIES! I was on my way to the audition with the celebrity judges and the live audience.
I sat in the briefing room while the kind people took down my information and helped me pick out the audition song that would clear for the next round. It was a long day, but well worth it. I started from being just another girl in a sea of 4,000 people to being the last person to walk out of the New York Convention Center. I can’t believe I ever questioned going to the audition that would change my life. I’m glad I faced my fears and went, because if we live in fear, we will never get to experience life.
Fear lies in Love, Dreams, and Life and we must face it. Face it with a open mind, and an open heart. I realized the more I faced my fear of rejection, the less it would happen. Although our fears haunt our pasts, we always have a chance to relieve our futures.
I faced my fear of rejection. And was accepted.
